Tutorial on How-to Install Dual Boot setup with Microsoft Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx 64bit RC via USB Memory device. I show off the advanced automatic re-partitioning feature of the Ubuntu installer. I also show the very nice desktop wallpaper made by a OSGUI fan known as wally. Has the install screen changed for the actual release? I get to Step 4 and it does not give me the option to “install side by side”. It does acknowledge the Windows 7 loader and gives me the option to install without Erase and use the entire disk, but no way to specify partition space via slider and no “Install side by side” option.

Awesome–installing my first dual boot set-up tonight after 4 years on ubuntu alone (oh, if only they’d come out with netflix streaming for ubuntu and I wouldn’t have to!). Watching you go through the set up makes me feel much less anxious.

@boyaddicted you need to search forums for the answer with regards to the hardware you have

@m00ste No, I need to buy one to fix a graphical failure for a computer that’s too old to be worth replacing the parts for. I fixed the MBR problem three times, each after an installation of Ubuntu decided to kick my bootup in the nuts. It was easy to fix, but it’s tiresome, and I still have no Ubuntu.

@velocitybird
You do not need to buy a new computer to fix a MBR problem….
at 1:14 pm
@UltimateDarkX no not if you do a dual boot … it leaves Windows in place
at 1:14 pm
@Gbghenke nope…. its exactly the same process for any version of Windows from 2000 2003 XP or 7 or 2008

Do your files get deleted if you install Ubuntu?
at 1:14 pm
@iLoveChimpanzee well you don’t need to buckup

Do you have to back up your files or something if you want to do this?? because i dont have an external hard drive
Also, My computer has 288GB
i have used like 180. Is 90 or 100GB enough to install ubuntu?
I would wipe my entire HD but my zune keeps me from not doing it :/

@OwNaGeOfDaLiAm don’t turn compiz on and flash at the same time
that never works for anyone well, they conflict

@OSGUIShow Well i installed ubuntu 10.04 from the LiveCD as you suggested onto a partition, and i found the exact same problem. It must just be my drivers or my laptop, either way i wont be using ubuntu for now.
