Stream media to PS3 with Windows Media Player 12 & Windows 7

A tutorial showing how to stream media such as pictures, music and videos to your PS3 with Windows Media Player 12 & Windows 7. If you cannot see the “Turn on media streaming with homegroup…” option, click “Stream” then “More streaming options… “. A new window will appear, in that window you will see a link to “Choose homegroup and sharing options”, click that link. Then you will see the options/ check boxes of what you would like to stream on your network, as shown in the video. Follow the video on from that point. THIS IS WHAT THE MEDIA FOLDERS LOOK LIKE: i46.tinypic.com or like this i48.tinypic.com IF YOU CANNOT SEE A FOLDER INSIDE ONE OF YOUR MEDIA FOLDERS: On your PS3, once you have clicked on the streaming icon (it should look like a Windows icon in a white box), you should see folders such as Music, Videos & Pictures. When you have opened a folder (eg. Music) you should see a bunch of other folders, but one of those folders will be called “Folders”. Inside that folder are all the other folders inside your media folders such as Music, Pictures & Videos. NOTE: On your PS3, streamed picture files must be accessed from the Photo column on the XMB, streamed audio files must be accessed from the Music column on the XMB and streamed video files must be accessed from the Video column on the XMB.

I have media shared in multiple folders. Most of my shares are on another hard drive. It shows my media but whenever I try to access it it gives an error stating that the media is corrupt or that the media server wont allow connection. I don’t want all my information transfered to my C: to the video folder, is there a way to share folders on another drive?

  8. Lamentus Says:

    thanks for the reply mate.
however i already solved the problem by adding the PS3’s IP address to the trusted IPs list on ZoneAlarm
    thanks though !
    cheers

@Lamentus Your COMODO firewall allowed you to stream media because it allowed/ kept open the UPNP port, which effectively allowed media sharing/streaming. ZoneAlarm probably has this port blocked, so allowing UPNP in your ZoneAlarm firewall would most likely let you stream without turning it off. Try looking for that option, or google it ?

  10. Lamentus Says:

hhm, i used to have COMODO firewall, and i had never a problem streaming to my ps3 even without turning the firewall off.
yesterday i switched to ZoneAlarm ( the COMODO had waaaay too many pop ups) and now the ps3 cannot find the pc unless i turn the firewall off..
it seems that ZoneAlarm makes the pc invisible to the home network ..
anyone has any suggestion on ZoneAlarm that would help me stream without turning it off?
    thanks! :)

    @EvanRules87
These versions of Windows 7 come pre-installed with Windows Media Player 12:
    Starter
    Home Premium
    Professional
    Ultimate

If you have one of the versions listed above, you do have WMP 12. Microsoft currently don’t offer WMP 12 for download, so if it didn’t come with your version of Windows 7, there is currently no way to download it.

  23. enjoicircakr3w Says:

just do the same thing but dont turn off the firewall instead click on allow a program through firewall and then click change, and make sure you click both squares for media center and then click ok. it should work and your firewall is still up :]

  24. Rymo18 Says:

@pinzell I had to disable it every time. Add the IP address of your PS3 to your allow list on your firewall.

  25. Rymo18 Says:

Never mind I figured it out. All you do is add the IP address of your PS3 to your allow list on your firewall.
