it’s always a good idea to email your license key to yourself.

  13. goddesfreackz Says:

If you don’t back it up to an external harddrive or CD or anything … the data will be erased by Windows 7 if you do a clean install (which is the recommended way of installing).
If you choose to do an upgrade… your data will not be lost unless something goes wrong during the upgrade process.

When you’re buying Windows 7, you’re really buying the installation key. The discs themselves can be copied, reused on other computers, etc… but your installation key is one-time-use and will be bound to the PC it’s activated on. For the other computers in your home, you’ll need to purchase additional copies of Win7 for additional installation keys.

Retail Win7 versions come with both a 32-bit and a 64-bit install disc; OEM versions only come with one or the other, whichever is specified.

  19. newegg Says:

This can vary a LOT depending on your computer’s motherboard and existing BIOS settings. My boot-from-DVD method in the video is a little old-school, but covers older BIOS versions that don’t have a shortcut boot-from-DVD key that’s available during POST.

  20. newegg Says:

If you’re currently using Vista, then yes, you can skip all the boot-from-DVD stuff and upgrade directly from the Vista desktop.

Personally, I reformat and re-load my OS once or twice a year for better performance; you’ll always get better results with a clean install than you would by loading Win7 on top of an old Vista install that’s been collecting dust for a while. If you keep tabs on your favorite programs and have a backup drive available, the clean install is the way to go.

  21. newegg Says:

I have several hard drives attached to my system, so they’re all displayed when installing and choosing a drive for the operating system. If you’re concerned about accidentally deleting data on a backup/storage drive, you can always unplug all your drives except for the one you plan to install Windows 7 to!

  22. newegg Says:

All the wallpaper you see in the video is included with Windows 7 Ultimate.

  23. JamieMckinley Says:

Can’t you just put the disk into the drive when you’re on desktop within vista? and install it from there?

    please say?

  24. newegg Says:

Got a chimney that can fit a UPS truck? :P

  25. runer9ner Says:

If I buy a Windows 7 Home Premium, could I use the disc on multiple computers? Also in Home premium is their two discs, one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit?

    Please reply. Thanks, great video
