I think open office has a thousand miles to go before its nearly as good as Microsoft Office, especially in the macro language, usability and overall GUI. MS Office is professional where as Open Office is sufficient for a home/school. Office user interfirence has always been much better then in open office.

As for Blender, from the point of view that I work with 3D graphics every day and anyone else who does, I think that I dont even have to get in to detail, Blender is not even close to 3DS.

That’s not the point; the point is what you can do with it, and how restrictive (and Christ all mighty! Spendy as Hell!) Windows is.

They both have their ups and downs, but Linux works for me, for what I want to do, and I’m satisfied with it. If you like Windows, then by all means, use Windows. Just know that in the end MS is milking the shit out of everything you see. Just the little things like MSN are a joke.

The new dock in Windows 7 is a total example of this. It’s so primitive, too, and I’m not talking aesthetic appeal here either; where’s the search effect that GNOME-DO provides? Where’s the customization and screenlet ability of Cairo-Dock?

That’s shitty logic, though, because everyone uses PC’s for different things. What you’re basically saying is that Windows is above all because it supports the most revenue generating pieces of software for computers. This may be true, but that does not in anyway make it higher than Linux or Mac. Windows is good for some things, and I’m not fully against it either.

@MoonLightFacade: I dont think that the “super bar” in windows 7 was meant to be highly customisable, just something to save space on the task bar and get people who just like the big icons at the bottom of the screen to use windows instead of Mac, this also helps Microsoft get an advantage over Apple. There are people who prefer eye candy over usability out there, plenty of them. The retail OS world is about business, which is why companies will not look at Linux for a long time to come.

Linux is less of a recourse hog. It would run better on your system no doubt about it. You’d be suprised what Linux can do with an old, or even new system. If you want to try dual booting so you can try Linux you can PM me, or if you have questions.
